Pike Pediatric Therapy serves infants to children 18 years of age in the Pike and surrounding areas. Our therapists work with children who may be nonverbal, have developmental delays, have a language delay and/or an articulation delay, may have oral motor concerns and/or feeding concerns. A primary care provider should refer clients to Pike Pediatric Therapy.
Private therapy sessions are now provided in a private therapy room at Charles Henderson Child Health Center. Therapy is often play-based to match your child's natural environment. We believe children learn so much through play; therefore, our therapists will observe your child during play and then make suggestions on ways to play with your child that will teach and elicit specific language skills. You (the primary caregiver) will be able to learn from our therapists and then utilize their methods with your child independently to help generalization of skills. Homework assignments may be given, such as a list of words to practice or suggestions on how to incorporate language into your daily life (e.g., bath time/dinner time).
Has your child’s doctor recently shared concerns regarding your child’s language/speech/oral motor/feeding abilities or do you have concerns regarding your child’s speech and language and feeding abilities? Contact our office for your complimentary consultation. During this phone consultation, our therapists will ask you questions: who first noticed your child’s atypical speech patterns (i.e., a family member, teacher, or other professional), when did they notice it, and whether your child has previously received speech therapy. After learning about your child, our therapists will talk you through the process of receiving speech therapy services and answer any additional questions you may have. If it’s determined that your child needs speech therapy, she’ll schedule a follow-up evaluation in your home. During the evaluation, she’ll use a variety of standardized tests and techniques to form a plan and goals for treatment
It is important to remember that all children develop at different rates. Your child’s length of time in therapy is dependent upon several factors. It is the goal of Pike Pediatric Therapy’s speech therapists to see your child graduate from speech therapy as soon as is appropriate. Your participation and willingness as the parent/caregiver to utilize taught strategies at home with your child will play a huge role in your child’s rate of progress.
Before your child's evaluation, your therapist will need to have a referral from your child's primary care doctor and the completed case history and consent forms.. During your initial phone consultation, your therapist will walk you through all the steps in preparing for your child's evaluation.
